Kelliher joins race

House Speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher has filed paperwork to run for governor.

The Minneapolis Democrat long had been thought to be planning a run, but she got into the race a bit later than some. About a dozen Democrats are running or looking into it.

"Over the past few months I have traveled the state talking to Minnesotans just like you," she wrote on her new Web site. "Today, with the support of my family, friends and people across the state, I took the first step to become our next governor by filing the necessary paperwork to run."

A formal announcement is expected in a few weeks.
